Develop the right persona and tone for your video content

Updated: Feb 4, 2024

Don't be vanilla. In a noisy world, staying low-key doesn't work. You can discover new things about yourself and your business by stepping out of your comfort zone.

Developing a persona for a brand is very important. If your message is a matter of fact, monotone and predictable, you might get the correct information out, but it might not resonate with anyone.

So how can you go about developing a person and tone when creating video content?

Take humour, for example; it's a great way to break through. It entertains and injects life into the content. Be chicky with the delivery or add spunk or sarcasm; whatever you choose, have a unique voice and persona.

Beyond that, you can develop specific tones for video campaigns, so if you do something seasonal-based, you can take an approach that echoes that theme. The same is true if your company has several products; each product can potentially have a distinct voice tonality that connects.

Just like when you watch a fiction or action movie, developing a tone, a look, and a feel that can stand out, is what dreams are made of.

I mean, look at the history of cinema or music, you could argue that everything has already been done before but the only thing that ever changes, the only thing that makes a movie different from others, is their point of view, the persona and the tone that is developed in.

This is true to marketing as well. For example, a manufacturer can say, we do x, y z, and our capabilities are..dot, dot, dot. We have years of experience, we have a lot of products, and many locations and more. Uniquely communicating this makes people notice and take action.

Developing a person might be challenging because it pushes you out of your comfort zone, but it's essential to be different and better than everyone else in the marketplace.

Don't think it's about doing a total 180° make-over. Instead, try different things and play around with colours, music, approaches, etc. Eventually, you'll be comfortable changing things up and pushing the boundaries of what your brand allows. Before you know it, you could be helping your brand and business connect with your audience in ways you didn't think was possible.

We, at Gut & Grit Media can help you discover and develop your voice because we are focused on helping you stand out, be noticed and have a unique voice audiences connect with.
